Less than a year after ASWB was selected to lead the development of a social work licensing compact, intended to enhance social work practice mobility in participating states, the effort has reached a new milestone.

The Technical Assistance Group—whose membership includes state lawmakers, social work regulators, social workers, educators, and attorneys—completed recommendations for compact requirements in February 2022.

The next step is for the Council of State Governments to draft the model compact legislation that every participating state will have to sign into law. That work is expected to be complete this summer.
